The internet wagering business in the UK has doubled in 5 years, with in excess of a million punters commonly wagering using the net. According to research carried out by the Dept. of Culture, Media and Sport, British gamblers make up approximately 1/3rd of the Old World’s estimated total of 3.3 million web gamblers.

The average cash amount bet by each gamer is approximated at £1,000, with the European industry now worth £3 500 000 000 each year.

Amongst the 70 online betting sites in the United Kingdom, none are gambling web sites advertising card games such as poker and black jack. A majority of the world’s 2,000 web betting sites are stationed in places with questionable net gambling standards. Antigua and Costa Rica account for more than one thousand sites between them.

The Gov’t in the United Kingdom is hoping to introduce procedures and a tax system to control the functioning of the web gambling sector. With this type of laws in place, online wagering activities would be observed and the industry can hope to acquire even bigger penetration in the near future.
